';Special Occasion'; dining while in Charleston

Hi. While we are vacationing in Charleston, we will be celebrating a MILESTONE birthday and we would like to treat ourselves to dinner at the best ';special occasion'; restaurant in town. We are interested in a restaurant that offers outstanding food, service and ambiance and are willing to pay for it. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

A few places come to mind, other opinions may vary:

Circa 1886 (www.circa1886.com) on Wentworth St at the Wentworth Mansion.

Carolina%26#39;s (www.carolinasrestaurant.com) on Exchange Street. Request the Perdita’s Room...it%26#39;s more intimate.

Robert%26#39;s (www.robertsofcharleston.com) on East Bay. They have 1 seating and the chef also sings for the guests. Food Network called it ';the most romantic restaurant';...for what that%26#39;s worth.

The Peninsula Grill (www.peninsulagrill.com) on Market St at corner of Meeting Street at the Planters Inn.

Enjoy your special birthday!

Some of my person favorites are Cypress on East Bay Street, Charleston Grill or Pennisula Grill they are right around the Market area. And if you don%26#39;t mind driving outside of the downtown area Woodlands in Summerville is fantastic!! Happy Birthday.

Oops Personal (I was typing fast and not paying attention)

Yes, the Woodlands is AMAZING!!! I%26#39;m actually taking my parents there for their 40th anniversary in October.

I second both Robert%26#39;s and Woodlands. Both are some of the most romantic meals I have ever had. Both pricey, but both very very worth it.

I would second all of these suggestion (other than Roberts as I have never been-they do have a great reputation though) and add McCrady%26#39;s and Grill 225 to the list.

The problem with finding an exceptional meal in Charleston is deciding WHICH exceptional meal you want!

Personal favorite? Chef Bob Waggoner at Charleston Grill.
