kiawah advice

We have visited kiawah 28 times since 1983 and some advice on how to really enjoy this spectacular barrier island;

1)rent a home behind the second gate i.e. Vanderhorst Plantation, preferrably with a pool. this can get pricey but is worth it.

save $ by eating breakfast and lunch at your home and some dinners too. Grill fresh seafood from kiawah fish market.Fresh produce readily available.

2)rent bikes!!

3)check home location on a kiawah map - some are fairly far from the beach.

4)you can save $ ( for the home with a pool) by playing golf in the afternoon after the rates drop. with cold drinks and a cart this is not overly hot (caution: beware of the ocean course when the wind is up as can happen in the afternoon)

5)stay 2 weekss if you can. this is real relaxation. the weather is then a nonisssue and you can feel your blood pressure coming down. invite the inlaws or outlaws if necessary to defray the cost.

6)visit charleston and take a carriage ride if you are new to the city.

7)look at a map for beach access before you rent.

8)we have rented nice homes form the resort as well as pam harrington and vrbo.com

in my opinion hilton head, fripp, MB, nags head etc do not compare with the back part of Kiawah.

we owned property and it apprecated 300% in 4 years - I still regret selling. If done right Kiawah is a slice of heaven.

Great advice!

For families who do not want or need a larger home with a pool, renting an Inlet Cove cottage is a great alternative.

The Inlet Cove pool belongs only to the Inlet Cove property owners, so you can use the pool, with adjacent river-front deck and dock, no matter which owner or management company you rent from. If you rent a cottage with a full river view, you will enjoy fabulous sunsets and feel like you are alone with nature, even though you are in a full-service resort community.
