Bike Week

I am thinking of flying down to Myrtle Beach on Memorial weekend to stay with my children and grandchildren at Ocean Dunes in North Myrtle. I am concerned about getting a taxi from the airport to the hotel because of all the traffic. Does anyone know what the situation would be like if I am arriving on Thursday and flying out on Memorial Day?

You might want to rethink that weekend, it%26#39;s black bikers weekend and they are everywhere.Some businesses close. We won%26#39;t make the mistake by going at that time again.

Do not want to detour you from coming to MB but if you are not coming for the bike rally you may want to rethink your dates. I%26#39;ll give you an example of my personal experience...2 years ago I left to go to a fast food restaurant while on my lunch break from work. Well the trip that usually takes me 7 minutes took me 6 1/2 hours from the time I left work until the time I got back! I sat in bumper to bumper traffic that was at a standstill for most of the time!

Needless to say I nor my boss was very happy. That taught me a lesson... NEVER again will I leave work during Memorial Day for ANYTHING but to go home! Traffic is HORRENDOUS!!!

On any other weekend of the year you would be fine to take a taxi from the airport, but not this one. You may want to strongly discourage your family from vacationing there at this time also. If they must go then, I would stay as far south as possible. Try Garden City or Surfside or even Litchfield.

To Anybobnmb: Is it just bad Memorial Day Weekend. How about the time frame from May21 thru May27?

First off, if its Ocean Dunes Resort, they would be located in Myrtle Beach (201 75th Ave N, Myrtle Beach)and not North Myrtle Beach. Most of the activity for this weekend (Atlantic Beach Festival) takes place in Atlantic Beach which is a small community just south of North Myrtle Beach and downtown along the strip (Blvd) in Myrtle Beach. So as long as you are not planning in heading in either of those directions, I dont think you will have any huge delays.

The days you are coming and going are pretty much the peak arrival and departure days, but many of the festival goers drive in. Taxis should be available there at the airport...and they should exit the airport to the 1st red light, turn right onto Grissom (go length of Grissom) onto 17 Bypass going north to 82nd Ave N turn right to Ocean Blvd...and hotel is just a few blocks down. Total trip is probably about 10miles. Good Luck! :)

The fesitval begins ';officially'; on the Thursday before Memorial Day...May 25th.

During the bike rally during Memorial Day is the only time traffic is that bad.

I know a 75 year old lady that travels all over the area by taxi, many times a year and has done it often om Memorial weekend. She%26#39;s been very happy with the service.
