food stores on kiaway island

We are going to Kiawah Island to cater a party for friends %26amp; was wondering if there are any big grocery stores or restaurant supply stores. I have never been there before %26amp; want to be prepared. Should I bring the majority of food %26amp; utensils w/ me or what is the closest grocery store. Thanks all!

The closest grocery store is Newton Farms, which is brand new and is located at the turn off from the main road to Kiawah. I haven%26#39;t been there but know several people who have. It should have everything you need. There is a very good selection of prepared foods (or take and bake type stuff). Rosebank Farms is also on the road to Kiawah and is a great place to buy seafood, vegetables, etc.

As far as utensils, if you are renting a condo or home, that should be stocked. You might ask the owner.

There is a somewhat limited store in the East Village, but as drive to the Island on Bohicket Road, you will pass two Piggly Wiggly (I still have trouble saying that name with a straight face) stores on the way to the island.

The first (the ';Big Pig';, to my family) is about 10 miles from the island at the corner of Bohicket Road and Maybank Highway. It%26#39;s a large, modern, full-service grocery store.

The second (you guessed it - the ';Little Pig';) is about 2 miles from the island entrance. The selection is not as great and it%26#39;s a tad crowded, but it%26#39;s fine for stocking up for one week%26#39;s provisions.

The so-called ';little pig'; closed last year when Newton Farms opened.

Newton Farms is a first-class super market selling high-end products. They have an excellent wine and cheese selection, even by NJ/NY standards.

There is a liquor store in the Freshfields shopping center, where Newton Farms is located, and another at the Bohicket Marina on nearby Seabrook island. Be aware that while wine and beer are available seven days per week from the supermarkets, ';hard'; liquor stores are closed on Sundays, by South Carolina law.

You will have all normal kitchen equipment, including microwave, ice maker, and blender, in your house or villa. If you are entertaining a large group, you may want more dishes, utensils, and glassware. (Plastics, maybe?)
