boat trips

Are the sightseeing boat trips any good? Thought of going on the one to the barrier island? Any recommendations are helpful.

We really liked the sea screamer and we saw like 15-20 dolphins which was a big plus. www.seascreamer.com/myrtlebeach

I like the Dolphin Adventure Cruise (www.hurricanfleet.com) very well run --- and alot of fun while your learning at the same time! Another fun one (especially if you have kids) is the Jolly Rover in Georgetown (just south of MB) its like an old pirate ship complete with pirate! And Wallace Charters does a great sailboat charter out of Georgetown too!

I see that you post a lot of answers to questions I was hoping you could look at my question that I posted Feb. 26 at 7:18pm, with the topic Holiday Sands North, and reply to it, your expert opion would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there...

The Holiday Sands North isnt a bad property at all...its not the shiniest nickel on the beach, but the staff there seems good, they have adequate accomodations, and they are centrally located. We used to stay in this area when we first vacationed in MB --- just down the way at Pier View. Something about that section of beach, and the people that run the properties there --- its like ';old Myrtle Beach'; --- which I do miss with some of the newer places coming in. Since you said you know that its not going to be a 4 star resort when you get there, you%26#39;ll be fine! It doesnt have all the bells and whistles that some places do, but then on the other hand, the value for the $ when it comes to the room rate reflects that. I think you%26#39;ll have a geat time! Let us know when you get back! :)

Thanks so much I was as stated getting scared.

Great INDOOR pool and/or Lazy River?

Okay, my head is swimming from looking at a kabillion different condos. I%26#39;m hoping someone here can help. We%26#39;re planning a trip to the MB area over spring break. Our 13 y.o. is taking two friends along (sigh) so teen-oriented activities are a must. We%26#39;re looking for a 2 BR oceanfront condo in a resort that has a great indoor pool(s) and indoor or indoor/outdoor lazy river. A game room would also be great. We%26#39;re open to areas north and south of MB also. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Great INDOOR pool and/or Lazy River?

Oops, almost forgot. The hubby says his only request is a pool bar - indoor or out. Low maintenance kinda guy. :)

Marriott's OceanWatch Villas at Grande Dunes

Hello, My family is looking into visiting Myrtle beach this July we have a time share and are looking to swap and go to Marriott%26#39;s OceanWatch Villas at Grande Dunes. I have two teenage sons and don%26#39;t want to be too secluded for their sake. Can anyone tell me if this hotel is in walking distance to activities such as water slides where they can venture out on their own for a bit.

Thanks,

Monica, CT

Marriott's OceanWatch Villas at Grande Dunes

We visited the Marriott Ocena watch Villas last year. The villas are beautiful! The Marriott is pretty secluded and I do not remember there be anything close enough to walk to.

Marriott's OceanWatch Villas at Grande Dunes

The Marriott OceanWatch sets towards the north end of Myrtle Beach (but not in N Myrtle Beach -- its confusing!) Not really any waterparks within walking distance. In fact only 2 in the whole area....and you would have to drive no matter where you stayed.

With that being said, there are a few hotels in that area that have some great pool facilities (and yes, a number of guests do ';pool hop';) The Apache Pier is maybe half mile walk, there an arcade there...heading south from the hotel is a number of places playing live music...and a surf zone (in case they want to rent a surf board). Most kids end up meeting up with other kids and tend to ';find'; their own fun. I really like this part of Myrtle Beach...its very safe and clean. The beach is really nice and wide.

You may want to take a look at a great map of the area on our local bus services%26#39; website:

www.golymo.com (click maps/schedules)

and a great local info guide:

www.strandmagazine.com

Hope all this helps! Have a great time...these are some beautiful condos! :)

Shorecrest in North Myrtle Beach is within walking distance of Alligator Adventure,House Of Blues,Dicks Last Resort,Alabama Theater, all of which are inside of Barefoot Landing.Shorecrest is a step below Marriot but is on the ocean and not as secluded. Also within walking distance is Hamburger Joes.

Sheratons Broadway Villas are within walking distance of Broadway At The Beach but are about a mile from the ocean. The M.B. Pelicans Field is also close by.Lots to do there if you dont mind not being on the ocean.

I%26#39;ve stayed at both of Tony%26#39;s suggestions about 3 times each and I agree; both would be good choices.

  • Dead Dog Saloon?

Can someone please tell me if the ';Dead Dog Saloon'; is still there? It%26#39;s been over 11 years since we have been back to Myrtle Beach, and we used to go there during every visit. We are coming there next Tuesday, and reading the forums makes me so excited to see it again. I%26#39;m sure it has changed a lot from then. All of your information and wisdom is so helpful - more than you%26#39;ll ever know! Thanks again:)

    Dead Dog Saloon?

Fear Not! The Dead ';Pooch'; (as my wife %26amp; I call it) is alive %26amp; well and still a great place to have drinks and/or eats while enjoying unobstructed views of Murrell%26#39;s Inlet. At sunset you can see the reflections on all the windows of the houses on Garden City%26#39;s southern point. Until the weather warms up, they have the deck enclosed in plastic %26amp; its somewhat heated (can still be chilly).

Might look a little different than your last visit, but just cruise south on 17B %26amp; you can%26#39;t miss it (on your left just after Divine Fish House...it%26#39;s the last place before the big parking lot at the marina).

    Dead Dog Saloon?

I really appreciate that information, but the one we went to was just walking distance from the Patricia Grand, kinda down a side street off N. Ocean Blvd. Would this be the same one only moved to Murrel%26#39;s Inlet? It was really quite small, but had a beautiful old wooden bar and a small patio outside. They had pictures of naked people in the bathrooms I think. In fact, my sister-in-law%26#39;s brother was down there golfing a long time ago and stoled one of the pictures from the men%26#39;s restroom, but took it back the next day when he sobered up! Thanks again for everyone%26#39;s insight - you don%26#39;t know how much I appreciate hearing from insiders - it makes a big difference between a good vacation and a great vacation !!

Hey...what the heck was he doing with that picture (LOL)...anyhoo, never heard of any other ';Dead Dog,'; just assumed you meant the one in MI. The place you refer to, if still there, must have another name.

The original Dead Dog on 26th ave. is closed, has been relocated to Murrells Inlet and recently opened a 2nd location at coastal grand mall. Both places are awesome, coolest bar/restaurants on the beach. live entertainment 7 nights a week. Dead Dog rocks

And that ';original'; Dead Dog Saloon building is now an awesome place to eat and listen to some great tunes....its called The Flying Fish....some good fish tacos there too!

Do love the ';new'; Dead Dog at Coastal Grande Mall...perfect fit in the old Buckhead building! And if Act II is playing, make sure you stop by!

Thank you all so much for the information! I knew I could count on y%26#39;all. We%26#39;re leaving in the morning from TN and can%26#39;t wait to try all these places out - we%26#39;ll have a drink for everyone!!

    harbour view inn?

Help my head is spinning trying to find best place would you stay at harbour view inn for $300.00 a night in a suite or is there a B %26amp; B better for the same price I just want 10 year anniversary to be special.....

    harbour view inn?

The HarbourView Inn is a really beautiful place to stay. You might want to also consider 2 Meeting Street Inn, Governors House Inn, the French Quarter Inn or even the Wentworth Mansion.

Kingston Brighton condo or Crescent Shores

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pros and cons of both Kingston Plantation Oceanfront condos or an oceanfront condo at Crescent Shores. I have narrowed it down to these two and can%26#39;t decide. It will be just my husband I and we plan on golfing, relaxing and maybe hitting a couple of night clubs and probably eating out every night. The units are both very nice with wonderful views but about a $400.00 difference. Also if someone could let me know where I could find a map of the Myrtle Beach area that lists hotels, restaurants. Can%26#39;t seem to find a good one!

    Thanks!

    Crescent Shores is very nice!

Kingston Brighton condo or Crescent Shores

I%26#39;m not as familiar with Crescent Shores as I am with the Kingston..guess it really depends on what you are looking for in your vacation. Kingston is more of a resort, whereas Crescent Shores is more like a large condo building. The Kingston has a few dining and entertainment options there at the complex, and a few more places to check out within a short drive.

As far as a map that would list hotels and restaurants...I dont think one exists! Strange isnt it? Maybe because of the multitude of places that would need to be listed?? Who knows...I really like the route maps on our bus systems website

    www.golymo.com

    or another local tourist publication

    www.strandmagazine.com

a good restaurant site that is in the process of getting a restaurant map together is

    www.myrtlebeachrestaurants.com

Hope all this helps! Have a wonderful time! :)

Thank you so much for your replies. I will check out the listed web sites. Do you have any other oceanfront condos you would suggest. Any hotels that are geared more for couples versus families?

A few you may look into would be Ocean Forest (www.vrbo.com) or depending on when you are planning your trip a place that looks fantastic and reopens in May is Sea Island Resort (www.seaislandatthebeach.com). Ocean Forest does have a few amenities (pool, restaurant/bar, etc) whereas Sea Island is more of a full service resort. Another place that is really nice is Southwind Villas but there is a bit of oceanfront construction going on there....hope this helps! :)
