please help!

We are thinking of going to Myrtle beach in May.I could really use some advice on a 5 star type of hotel. A timeshare sounds like it might be better to rent. We have no clue as we have never been in this area before. We are going to drive down. Our kids are 15%26amp;17 so we need to be on the ocean and of course near a mall!. So let us know if you have any suggestions.

Really, the only upscale hotel is the Marriott Grande Dunes - quite nice. Off ocean is a newer Sheraton Resort with villas - also quite nice. Best wishes.

Bike or moped rentals?

Anyone know of any good places to rent bikes or mopeds in Charleston? Thanks.

Bike or moped rentals?

There are plenty of places all over the Islands/Charleston-for bikes anyway. Ask your concierge, the visitors center, or type it into Google and watch them spit out! Don%26#39;t miss a ride across the new Ravenel Bridge or on Front Beach, IOP-they%26#39;re the places to see and be seen!

Check out Bike The Bridge Rentals (www.bikethebridgerentals.com)...they have locations in Mt. Pleasant and downtown (2).

Definitely take a ride over the new Ravenel Bridge...let me warn you, the first mile up the bridge coming from Mt. P is pretty steep...I run it every week and dread that first mile...but the view from the top is worth it! If you leave from downtown, the ride up is more enjoyable as the incline is more steady.

Enjoy your visit!

Hilton Head Day Trips

We are headed out to Hilton Head next Saturday and were wondering if anyone could provide us with ideas for day trips. No kids, just 2 adults and 2 dogs (obviously the dogs can stay in the rental or come with us).

Hilton Head Day Trips

The usual day trips for visitors to HH are Beaufort, Savannah and Charleston. Savannah is the closest on Hwy 17 directly into the Historic District.

Check out the Magnolia Plantation and Middleton Place on the way to Charleston. You could take in both of them in one day. Both places have web sites.

we love visiting the penn center, a museum of african american sea island history, on st. helena island. you will find st. helena refreshingly authentic. the live oaks are gorgeous and there are some ruins of old churches there. there%26#39;s an interesting store called the red piano and a gullah restaurant there.

In addition to Penn Center, drive out to Hunting Island State Park and see the Lighthouse museum there. Also go to Parris Island and the USMC Museum.

Walk down Bay Street in Beaufort and see the ante-bellum mansions which look out on port royal sound. See the home on that street where the ';Big Chill'; and the ';Great Santini'; were filmed. Perhaps you can meet Pat Conroy or Tom Berrenger during your walk. They both live there.

HH in April 2006 dinner reservations

Hi, we will be in HH for first time 5/9-5/16. We are traveling with two kids, 12 and 15. I hear it is going to be crazy busy. Do we need dinner reservations in advance and if so, where do you recommend? Also, staying at Marriot Grand Ocean. What is around there to do?

You are coming at a great time of year. The island is not too crowded. The golfers and visitors who came for Easter and the Heritage tournament are gone, and the summer crowd hasn%26#39;t arrived yet.

The water temparture is already in the seventies so you can go swimming. Many of the more popular restaurants will be available. However you need to make reservations at some of the fine dining establishments.

When you get here, pick up a copy of ';Restaurants'; magazine. In the ads and menus presented restaurants that say reservations suggested are those you need to call and make arrangements for.

Seeking a destination for a family vacation to celebrate...

We are looking to get the family together for our parents 50 anniversay for a long weekend probably longer in July sometime. Will have 5 to 6 families needed lodging and kids between ages 6 and 14 to have activities close by to keep them entertain. Parents are from Boston so hot weather isn%26#39;t there favorite but they LOVE water - anything by beach or lake. Would love to hear ideas for a vacation we want to be special for all. Thanks

Check out Wild Dunes on the Isle of Palms...also, the Inn at Middleton Place. Best wishes.

How about the state parks. They are beautiful and offer a lot. There is one on semitropical Hunting Island that offers the water, fishing, small grocery, hiking, biking and is not too far from historic Beaufort SC for the historic sites and shopping and events there. Check out: discoversouthcarolina.com/stateparks/cabins.鈥?/a>

The cabins have screened porches and a/c, linens, microwaves, color tv and some have one, two and three bedroom cabins. I%26#39;ve heard the ones at the lake at Devil%26#39;s Fork are very nice.

  • oops, Forgot To Say. 2 below in Myrtle Beach

forgot to mention that the Diplomat Hotel is in myrtle beach.any info would be helpful. thanks from Indy

oops, Forgot To Say. 2 below in Myrtle Beach

The Diplomat is around 6th Ave N right in Myrtle Beach...not to far at all from the Pavilion. They are pretty strict on renting only to families and married couples. Check out their website at www.the diplomatmotel.com

    Have fun! :)

I wonder why there isn%26#39;t any reviews or info on The Diplomat here on Tripadvisor? Or am I missing it somewhere?

Good question. Dont know why that is. The Diplomat has been in Myrtle Beach for a LONG time. It is an older hotel (a mom and pop), she keeps it clean, not sure what condition the rooms are, but the outside is ok.

    which place to stay at

First time time to MB with wife and 3 teen sons. Can swap my timeshare for week at one of the following: Marriott Oceanwatch Villa at Grande Dune(*Heard it was beautiful and great facilities, but isolated), Schooner I and II Beach and Raquet Club, Beach House Gulf and Racquet Club, and The Peppertree by The Sea.Please comment on location to activities, quality of beach, service, condition of rooms and facilities, etc. Basically, which of these places will make me a hero with my family, and not a goat! My thanks in advance for help given.

    which place to stay at

I would say out of the once you have listed that I would go with the Mariott Oceanwatch Villas. This property is the newest out of those, and sits on one of the best beaches in the area. Its not anymore isolated than The Peppertree (I think that property is really isolated). The Schooner I isnt too far south of the Mariott (Mariott is a bit north of 82nd Ave N, Schooner is at 70th Ave N). The Schooner II is closer to the downtown area just north of 21st Ave N. You may want to check out some of the reviews to the left of folks that have actually stayed at these properties. Hope this helps! I%26#39;m sure you will have a wonderful time! So much to do for kids that age! :)
